It was the summer of 1920. 35 states had voted to ratify the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution which granted women the right to vote. Only one other state’s vote was needed...Tennessee’s. Thousands gathered in Nashville, TN for the Tennessee General Assembly. Yellow roses were worn by Suffragists while red roses were worn by Anti-Suffragists. Due to the hard work of the many women and Suffragists, Tennessee became the 36th state to vote for the ratification of the 19th Amendment and handed the ballot to millions of women which changed the face of American politics forever.
