“Psycho” Graphic Film Props

In October of 2023, I made a prop a day for the 1960 film "Psycho". It was a thrill... just like the movie itself. A lot of design research, script reading, and hand designing went into this project.

A Closer Look

Graphic Film Props | 2022

I had the great chance to attend Annie Atkins’ (Graphic Designer for Wes Anderson, Spielberg) design workshop in Dublin, Ireland this summer. We spent our days making graphic props by hand, learning hand-lettering tricks, binding books, and tea-staining paper.

Here is a look at the props I created based on my grandmother’s fishing past as follow-up homework post-workshop.

Paper Props

Vintage Receipt Prop Designs

I researched and designed these automobile receipts spanning from 1920 to 1980. You can see that the paper sizes shifted across the years, and the later decades started to become, in my opinion, a little less fancy.

A 2023 Road Map

I made this graphic prop as an ode to 2022 and as a roadmap for 2023. With this map, a visit to Mt. Appreciation is a must and a trip north to Port of New Opportunities is exciting. Having a full tank of gas to Delightville with clear windows to get us to the Valley of Health is a good route. I’ll stop there.

Hometown Design

In 2021, nostalgic memories came rushing back to me of my small hometown, Anna, Illinois. Perhaps it was the isolation from a pandemic or that I started to view my hometown and its unique people and history as a source of inspiration and an avenue for great storytelling.

Here you’ll see a design study of Anna’s one motel and what the marketing materials could have looked like in the 1960s. You’ll also find a recreated 1920’s ephemera of Rodgers Theatre.
